Rekōdo Vinyl Bar and Restaurant

Creating new rhythm for experiential dining
In 2022, Solotel Group approached us to work on a restaurant for their multi-level hospitality offering, Barangaroo House. They wanted a concept that would anchor the entire three-level building.
Placed between the casual ground floor House Bar and rooftop bar Smoke, the new offering needed to be unlike anything Sydney had seen before to draw a fresh crowd, complement the existing venues and make the whole building a destinational drawcard for the Barangaroo precinct.
And so, Rekodo was born – an immersive restaurant and vinyl bar inspired by Japanese listening rooms that blurred the lines between dining, drinking and music.
The irreverent audiophile
Our strategy positioned music at the heart of Rekodo’s offering to create a new rhythm for experiential and immersive dining in Sydney – one where sound was just as important as food and drink – from lunch to dinner to late-night.
Its highly considered yet approachable offering appeals to the city’s younger, culturally hungry crowd looking for beautiful, out-of-the-box experiences. This spectrum of experience is unlike anything else in Barangaroo, establishing Rekodo as a dynamic changemaker revitalising the suburb.
Amplifying the senses
Using Rekodo’s unique positioning as a launchpad, we developed a brand identity that turned up the volume and invited people to eat, drink and listen. From physical touch points like street posters and chopstick holders to digital assets, we created a brand identity that amplified everything.
Listen up
To communicate this new offer, we introduced Rekodo to the people of Sydney through a multiphase launch campaign. First, we invited them to ‘Listen Up’ during the restaurant’s pre-launch phase, piquing curiosity with stylised imagery that brought together food, drink and vinyl.
Once Rekodo launched, we evolved the campaign messaging to ‘Eat. Drink. Listen Up’. This shift allowed us to build upon the pre-launch campaign while instantly conveying Rekodo’s unique multisensory offering.
Finally, to stabilise the restaurant's launch period, we shifted to programming messaging to keep audiences engaged and reiterate brand positioning.
With Rekodo established as a venue that doesn’t miss a beat, Barangaroo House evolved into a destination that performs on all levels – all day and all night.
